Diamond Valuations

Crofts are independent diamond valuers in Melbourne and can provide a diamond ring valuation, accurately assessing the quality of your jewellery pieces.

When purchasing an engagement ring or Diamond jewellery you should always seek an independent jewellery valuation.  Diamond jewellery valuations are important for three main reasons:

  • To assess the quality of your Diamond and to verify that the Diamond in your jewellery is the same Diamond described in your Diamond certificate or sales docket (or receipt).
  • To ensure the quality and workmanship of your jewellery by an independent third party.
  • And to quantify the jewellery item’s monetary value for insurance purposes.

Diamonds are all individual and they are usually priced accordingly, through the assessment of the 4 C’s (Carat (weight), Colour, Clarity and Cut), and each of these headings can have a big impact on the final cost.

CARAT is the unit of measurement for the weight of your Diamond (one carat is approximately 1/5 of a gram).

COLOUR is represented by an alphabetical system, from D through to Z.  As the alphabet letters progress through the alphabet, so does the yellow tint in your Diamond.  Grading for colour is conducted with the aid of a master set of Diamonds, and we have Australia’s largest set of colour grading Diamonds the CIBJO 2 Master set.

CLARITY refers to the amount of natural inclusions found within your Diamond and the ease with which they can be seen by the viewer.

CUT is not the shape of the Diamond, but it talks specifically to the mathematically perfect proportions of the Diamond to achieve the best reflection of light.

Each of these grading parameters can have a dramatic effect on the value of your Diamond, and proper assessment of these are necessary for accurate jewellery valuing.
