Monica Crofts, Owner, Registered Valuer Number RV 270
Monica graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Sydney University and worked as a scientist for a number of years, before changing her field and completing the Diploma of Gemology in Sydney with the GAA (Gemological Association of Australia), the Valuers’ course with the NCJV (National Council of Jewellery Valuers), and also completing a Diamond correspondence course with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), as at the time there was no Diamond grading course available in NSW. She went on to lecture in Gemology and became Head Practical Demonstrator as well as becoming involved in the GAA Council up to the level of Vice- President, and represented NSW at Federal level conferences.
On moving to Melbourne, Monica re-created her Valuation service inconjunction with her new husband, Ian Crofts, who was a Gemstone wholesaler. Monica went on to serve on the Victorian NCJV Committee (National Council of Jewellery s) for some years as President and delegate to the National Committee.
Monica is part-owner and grader for Australian Diamond grading Company, Scientific Gem Testing Laboratories (SGTL), who produce the Auscert and Gemcert certificates.
Monica and her team have worked in all facets of the Jewellery Industry, bringing a wealth of knowledge together. Collectively the team have dealt in depth with vintage jewellery and antiques; along with having experience in jewellery retail, manufacturing, Gemstone trading and Diamond grading.
Crofts Jewellery Valuations have also done consulting work for multiple Government agencies, Auction houses, Solicitors / Barristers, and Insurance companies.
Accurate jewellery evaluation is a demanding and highly technical profession which draws on many areas of expertise and knowledge. To assist with this, we at Crofts Jewellery Valuations have built up an Australia-wide network of valuers, jewellers, wholesalers and retailers, specialising in different aspects of the industry. These experts can be called upon for technical advice, resources and information on any industry issues that may arise.
